A good piece of advice is to never mention salary on your Resume or your Cover Letter.
Sometimes a job ad asks for your salary history or your salary expectation.
You have to realize that revealing those dollar figures in your application in advance puts you at a disadvantage.
This is especially true if you’ve been working for low pay — or if
you’ve been paid above market.
If you decide to participate in stating your expectations, always try to state your expectations in a range, and include the value of all
benefits, bonuses, and perks in your salary history, not just cash.
Be sure you do these two things before you state your salary expectations:
✓ Research your local market rates for someone with your skills and experience.
✓ Research online market rates using Web sites Salary.com (www.salary.com), Salary Expert
(www.salaryexpert.com), and PayScale (www.payscale.com).
